15 Common Mistakes that Violate Google Adsense TOS
Google Adsense publishers often commit common mistakes that could ban their Adsense account. Google Adsense is a popular web advertising program which provides a good income source for many websites. There are well defined terms of service to strictly adhere to when participating in the program.
On my visit through sites and forums, I daily notice several instances of misuse of Adsense ads. So here a few helpful Google Adsense tips, probably many you already know, and few you might gain by knowing now. These adsense faq are all picked from the Program Policies, Terms and Conditions and FAQ itself and presented in a simplified manner.
Never click your own adsense ads or get them clicked. This is a surefire way to close you Adsense account. Never tell your office associates or friends to click on them. Keep a check if your family or children are busy increasing your income by clicking your ads and indirectly trying to stop your income. Dont even think of offering incentives for clicks, using automated clicking tools, or other deceptive software. Adsense is very smart to detect fraudulent clicks. Check the ads which appear on your pages by the Google Preview tool if required.
Only do Adsense code alterations that are allowed. There are enough means of adsense optimization & customizations available to change the colour, background or border to suit your needs. Do whatever you want to do outside the code, never fiddle within the ad or the search code unless it is allowed for example in cases of switching to responsive code or load adsense script once when using multiple units. They know it when you do. The search code has more limitations to colour and placement, but you should adhere to the rules. The code may stop working and violates the TOS.
Number of ad units you can place are limited. Do not place more than 3 ad units and 3 ad links or 2 adsense search boxes on any web page. Anyway, ads will not appear in those units even if you place more ad units. But this is the limit they set, so it is better to stick to it. If you use the larger ad units like 300×600 ad units, you can use them only once – you cannot add 3 such units of this size – so take care to see rules with larger ad units.
Beware of competitive contextual text ad or search services on the same site. Many alternate ad services offer Google Adsense competition in their field. Never try to create link units and placements resembling the adsense ads, to confuse users. Never use other competitive search tools on the same pages which have Adsense powered Google search. While they do allow affiliate or limited-text links and other contextual advertising like Yahoo ads, Chitika etc, ensure that they do not resemble Adsense ads.
Do not disclose confidential information – Do not reveal publicly information about your account like the CTR, CPM and income derived via individual ad units or any other confidential information they may reveal to you. However, you may reveal the total money you make as per recent updates to the TOS.
Label ads as “sponsored links” or “advertisements” only. Other labels are not allowed. I have seen many sites label ads with other titles. Dont make your site a target in a few seconds gaze.
Never launch a New Page for clicked ads by default. Adsense ads should open on the same page. You may be using a base target tag to open all links in a new window or frame by default. Correct it now as they do not want new pages opening from clicked ads. In some regions of the world and in some premium accounts, they will enable ad clicks to open in new windows/ tabs by default.
One Account suffices for Multiple websites. You do not need to create 5 accounts for 5 different websites. One account will do. If you live in the fear that if one account is closed down for violation of TOS, believe me they will close all accounts when they find out. You can keep track of clicks by using channels with real time statistics. They will automatically detect the new site and display relevant ads.
Place ads only on Content Pages. Advertisers pay only for content based ads. Content drives relevant ads. Although you might manage some clicks from 404 error pages, login screens, registration, “thank you” or welcome pages, parking pages or pop ups, it will get you out of the program.
Do not mask ad elements. Alteration of colours and border is a facility to blend or contrast ads as per your site requirements. I have seen many sites where the url part is of the same colour as the background. While blending the ad with your site is a good idea, hiding relevant components of the ads is not allowed. Also do not block the visibility of ads by overlapping images, pop ups, tables etc. – a very common mistake with all new design elements.
Do not send your ads by email – Html formatted emails look good and allow placement of these javascript ads. But it is not allowed as per TOS. You do not want impressions registering on their logs from any email even once. They are watching!
Keep track of your content. So Adsense is not allowed on several non content pages. But it is also not allowed on several content pages too. Do not add it on web pages with MP3, Video, News Groups, and Image Results. Also exclude any pornographic, hate-related, violent, or illegal content.
Do not alter the results after ad clicks or searches – Ensure you are not in any way altering the site which the user reaches to after clicking the ads. Do not frame, minimize, remove, redirect or otherwise inhibit the full and complete display of any Advertiser Page or Search Results Page after the user clicks on any Ad or Search results.
Avoid excessive advertising and keyword stuffing – Although the definition of ‘excessive’ is a gray area and is subject to discretion, yet Google adsense with correct placement, focused content and high traffic will get you much more income than other programs, so excessive advertising is not required. Keyword stuffing does target better focused ads, but overdoing it is not required.
Do not specify Google ads as your alternate ads. – Several services like Chitika eminimalls allow you to place alternate urls, when a targeted paying ad cannot be displayed. This involved creating an simple html page and putting the ad to be displayed instead. Even Adsense allows an alternate url feature instead of displaying public service ads. But never use Adsense ads as alternate urls as you do not know on which poor content pages they might start to show.
Do not confuse with adjacent images – It was a common policy to increase CTR by placing same number of images as the number of text ads, which falsely gave the impression that the text ads represented an explanation to these images. Inserting a small space or a line between the images and ads is not allowed. Make sure that the ads and images are not arranged in a way that could easily mislead or confuse your visitors.
Whenever in doubt, it is better to ask for adsense help from the learned staff of Google Adsense. They are very helpful!
Beginner’s Guide to Google AdSense for Publishers
Introduction
Google-Adsense-TipsWhile Distilled’s blog usually focuses on e-commerce, high level SEO and big-budget outreach I thought I’d mix it up this week and throw a little something to the hard-working AdSense publishers out there. The following is a beginner’s guide to Google’s advertising network for publishers. If you’ve been receiving checks from Google over the years it’s always advisable to take a step back and revisit some of the basics. Search engine exposure and organic traffic are great and all but we know you’re also ultimately interested in those dolla, dolla, bills.
The lines between paid and organic search are blurring while millions of site’s revenue streams depend on contextual advertising to survive. I’m convinced it’s important that well-seasoned consultants and webmasters understand both sides of the equation.
While you won’t find many mind-blowing, “Increase Your AdSense CPC in Minutes!” claims on this page you will hopefully come away having learned something new. Or at least inspired enough to test something out on your own site. I hope this guide helps bridge the knowledge gap between SEO and PPC professionals.
The On-Page Basics
Ad Placement
As an aspiring AdSense publisher you’ve probably already seen Google’s heat map for ad placement. Well, Google has moved away from that model and has decided to go for one more focused on the user experience:
NewHeat The old heat map was a bit too generalized for the myriad site designs out there. The above encourages publishers to place their ads in a way that doesn’t circumvent their content. The possibilities are too numerous to dive into here but the idea is to get the ad in front of the user without taking too much away from the actual content. More ads in more obtrusive places does not always amount to more revenue (your ultimate goal, right?). The recent pagerank penalty for ads above the fold not withstanding; your readers are the life blood of your web property. Drive them away and you won’t even have to worry about that little potential bump in CTR you’ve been trying to squeeze out of the site.
Find a balance between intrusive and irrelevant, do some testing or better yet: poll your users to strike that balance.
Ad Types
While there are a lot of different ad sizes to choose from Google tells us these four are the most successful:
Best-Ad-Units Why do these ad units perform better than others? Google’s bidding system requires advertisers to create various multimedia ads for placement on their publisher network. Many companies do not purchase slots for all of the different formats so they ultimately don’t even create those sizes. Therefore, if you’re using a more obscure ad type the pool of bidding advertisers is smaller which results in lower revenue for you, the publisher.
Stick to these four ad units and you’ll get a lot more competition for your ad space.
Image vs Text Ads - I’ve heard webmasters swear that their sites make more money when they limit their ads to “image only” or “text only” but in the end, Google’s bidding system places the highest bidding ad onto your page, whether it be image or text. Cutting out half of the bidding pool can only lead to lower returns.
That having been said, all of that means nothing if your own testing can prove a lower number of clicks on your specific site. Perhaps your site design performs better with only text on the page. If this is the case you may need to ask yourself if the way you are placing your advertisements isn’t in violation of the Google Adsense Terms of Service as users may be accidentally clicking on the ads.
Either way it is considered best practice to allow both text and image ads for maximum competition over the ad space.
Blending vs. Contrast - Ah, another age-old AdSense debate. Should your ads be placed and colored in such a way as to blend in with your site design? Or will you get more clicks by having your ads stand out more? Webmasters are divided on this one but when a design feature is more or less a toss-up, in my mind, always go with what benefits the user. As a fellow website user yourself, do you prefer advertisements to “pop out” at you or would you rather they integrate seamlessly?
Adsense-contrast-blend
Trick question, we know you’re using AdBlock plus. Go back to Reddit, smart guy. Unless you come to me with some hard data showing that ugly ads will make us all wealthy vs an aesthetically pleasing one (and I encourage you to do that testing!) it just isn’t worth the eye sore or the user agitation. But even then you spent a lot of money on web design and a lot of time making your site look just so. Don’t sully that over a 0.1% increase in CTR. The blemish would have to have an unprecedented impact to even consider compromising my product: the character, look and feel of the site.
We may have sold our souls to Google’s advertising network but we’re still very much in the “Overall Pageview” and “Returning Visitor” business as well, you know.
Attract “Quality” Traffic
Google and it’s advertising partners want to reach potential buyers. If the traffic coming to your page isn’t that of people willing to buy or shop online then a click from a user on your page is objectively worth less to them (see notes on CPC, CTR and RPM below).
quality-trafficGoogle is confident in its own search engine (obviously) so organic traffic is very much considered “quality” traffic. I also suspect that Google favors “logged in” Google users for tracking and re-targeting purposes so referrals from places like Google plus are also desirable.
Since there is the most competition online for English advertisements in the United States then that is the traffic most valuable to your site. Traffic from other English speaking countries (UK, Canada, Australia etc) is also coveted.
Of course, site language and location aren’t something you can change very easily as a webmaster. But do keep this in mind if you’re seeing low numbers for a non-english site. There may be better contextual advertising alternatives out there for your language/country.
It’s important to note generally that Google keeps tabs on your traffic sources if only to help weed out invalid clicks. It also stands to reason that they use this data to help determine the quality of ads that will eventually appear on your site.
CPC, CTR & RPM
If you’re not familiar with these three acronyms then you’re probably new to the wonderful world of AdSense. Here are the quick and dirty definitions straight from Google:
CPC: cost-per-click (CPC) is the amount you earn each time a user clicks on your ad.
CTR: clickthrough rate (CTR) is the number of ad clicks divided by the number of page views.
RPM: revenue per thousand impressions (RPM) is calculated by dividing your estimated earnings by the number of page views you received, then multiplying by 1000.
CPM-CTR-RPMThese are the metrics you’re going to be looking at when you’re making decisions about ad performance. Pretty basic concepts, right?
You’ve probably seen the cornucopia of less-than-reputable blogs with big promises of “Unlocking The Secrets to Increasing your AdSense CPC” or “How to Get More AdSense Clicks”. In my experience these posts often advocate risky tactics and at the very least fail to completely demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of how AdSense works.
Cost Per Click is a number we, as publishers have little control over. Much of the calculation is based on your domain’s niche (Entertainment, Technology, Marketing etc) and that particular factor isn’t something you can easily change. Check out this in depth report from Google on niche trends in display advertising (and tons of other great info).
Much like Google’s AdWords program, prices can range from a few pennies per click up to five or ten dollars depending on the competition for that keyword. But the higher the competition for that keyword or category the less likely that your domain will be pulling in huge amounts of quality organic traffic around that keyword because of that competition.
Here’s a fictional situation many people run into that may help you get a better grasp on these three metrics and to help answer the question: “What rate is Google paying me at?”
A webmaster dives into her AdSense report for the past six months and sees the following. Up and to the right?! Not really.
cpc
“Fire our webmaster, fire our PPC expert, fire everything! I thought we just read through that ”How to Increase Your AdSense CPC“ blog post last month?! How could this have happened to our amazing site?”
Whoa there, CPC isn’t at all the best indicator of AdSense success.
“But isn’t $5.00 per click better than .30 cents per click?”
Not necessarily. Google could pay you $100 per click but with 0 valid clicks you’d still be penniless. That’s where Clickthrough Rate comes in. Take a look at this chart showing both CPC and CTR for the same time period:
CPCvsCTR Looks a lot better, right? And assuming your pageviews have been increasing over that six month period you could also be seeing a nice uptick in revenue.
Here’s where RPM comes in. You’ve gotta love RPM because it includes a metric much more important than CPC or CTR: Revenue.
RPM, remember is revenue per 1000 impressions. This is much more indicative of determining the rate at which Google is paying for your viewer’s attention. Take a look at the RPM for the same period of time as the above two charts.
RPM
See? No crisis. And I’ll be damned if that isn’t a slight increase! Remember that even a small bump in RPM can mean a lot for a site with upward trending page views. The other benefit of the RPM metric is that it can be easily compared across contextual advertising networks. Suppose you’re testing out AdSesne alternatives and you want to compare rates. CPC and CTR don’t tell the whole story. Even Revenue on it’s own can be deceiving (seasonality, Reddit spikes, etc). RPM takes everything into account and gives you a versatile, accurate estimate of your imbursement rate.
CPC and CTR are worth monitoring on their own. Of course you want your CPC to stay as high as possible. And obviously you’ll use CTR to test banner sizes, colors, placement and ad quality. But at the end of the day the only thing that really matters to you as a publisher is revenue. To that end CTR and CPC just don’t tell the whole story on their own.
You’ll probably read other articles promising increases in CPC or CTR TONIGHT! But be wary of anything that even comes close to violating Google’s ToS. Avoid general statements such as “wider ads are better”, “ads within content are always better” or “orange text is always better” because these might not apply to your site design, niche or site layout at all.
There are several of these CTR factors (many of which I’ve addressed here) that are worth testing and are completely legit but we’ll have to dive deep into those in distilledU or a more advanced post.
Using the Competitive Filter (Sparingly)
AdSense allows publishers to block specific ads based on a few different parameters: URL (Target.com, eBay.com), Broad Category (Clothes, Cars, Animals), and Ad Network (DoubleClick, AdWords) are the ones you’ll most likely use, if any. You can also choose to approve each advertisement manually but this will require your personal attention and also puts a drain on your overall revenue as it sort of grinds against the entire idea of a bid-based, dynamic advertising system.
Google generally recommends allowing most advertisements through. Advertisers “bid” on ad placements based on keywords, topic areas and inventory. The advertisement that ends up popping up on your domain is the one that paid the most for that spot. Even if that ad looks like crap. Even if that ad is the same one that’s been showing up for months. Google wants to make the most money from that ad unit as it can (hey, that’s the same goal that you have!) so they inevitably advise users to utilize the ad filter sparingly.
In my personal experience working with several sites running AdSense... wait for it... Google is correct. Google is aware of factors such as CTR so it is very doubtful that you have any information about getting better ads to your pages than they do. Perhaps in 2005, when the frontier was new and fresh, the AdSense algorithm was less able to deliver relevant ads to your pages. But we’ve come a long way since then and the ads that appear on your site are not only the highest paying, they’re also the most likely to get clicked on.
You also don’t want to block ads from Target.com, eBay.com and hulu.com one week, forget about it for two years and then come back to your filter wondering why you limited yourself. (yes, this situation happened to me). So if you do use the ad filter be sure to check it periodically to make sure your blocks still make sense.
Having said that there are some situations where using the competitive ad filter makes sense:
Competitor’s Ads Are Showing Up on Your Pages Some Ads Contain Undesirable “Roll-Over for Sound/Video” Effects Moral Objections (Gambling, Insurance, Starbucks)
Mobile Considerations
If you’re running a mobile-specific theme then you’ll need to account for this. Make sure that your ads are tagged properly so that you can monitor their performance (see “Monitor Everything” below). You may have already noticed that AdSense ads delivered on mobile devices already look different than their desktop counterparts using the same code. Google has been making some changes recently to make the ads more “touch friendly”. This includes font size changes as well as the addition of graphical, clickable arrows to encourage mobile clicks.
Below is a bit of anonymous AdSense data that was taken over the past year and covers 4.5 million PVs. As you can see the distribution of pageviews across platforms is very similar to that of clicks.
Adsense-Mobile-Clicks This leads me to believe that mobile users are clicking on AdSense ads at just about the same rates as desktop users these days, if not more so (this data was taken from a site without a dedicated mobile version or a responsive design).
But what does this mean to you? Well first you should be sure to check these stats out for yourself. Results may vary given your setup. Does your distribution of pageviews match up with your distribution of clicks? If mobile is significantly down then you’ve got some ‘splainin to do! There are too many possibilities to dive into here but if your mobile users aren’t clicking on ads then take another look at how you’re delivering content to mobile users and make sure it either matches the desktop experience or compensates for it properly. Just keep an eye on those stats as more and more traffic moves to mobile. This needn’t be a negative development for your site or your pocket book.
If you’ve got a dedicated mobile version of your blog then you might want to consider AdSense’ mobile specific ads. Otherwise your normal AdSense code works just fine these days.
Monitor Everything
Trying to nail down cause and effect scenarios with AdSense is a lot like trying to do the same in SEO. Was that increase in CTR caused by an on-page color change that I made or are we simply being served more clicktastic ads this month? How can you be truly sure with so many variables in play? You ultimately can’t precisely do this and Google likes it that way. In fact, we should all like it that way because the system doesn’t work very well if, as is sometimes the case with SEO, some are able to manipulate the system. But even so, as webmasters we know that if we keep a close eye on all of the variables and maintain a steady stream of incoming data we’ll be able to make some educated guesses about what Google is looking for.
Google AdSense monitors almost everything you’ll care about right out of the box. You should immediately connect AdSense to your Analytics account as the data there cannot be applied retroactively. But the most important manual step you’ll want to take is to apply a unique label to each of your ads. The AdSense console makes it (somewhat) easy to track how each ad unit is doing. All you need to do is create individual channels for each ad unit and you’ll be able to track how each is doing.
Here’s a two-minute primer on custom channels:
After a month or two of data you’ll more than likely find that some of your ad unit placements are under-performing. With the Analytics connection you’ll also be able to narrow it down to which pages are performing. Powerful information, indeed. Get rid of the under-performing units for the sake of your users and to increase your overall CTR. Or maybe even consider placing an additional unit on pages that perform well. You could even do some simple A/B testing this way to determine which ad styles worked best for you.
You should also separate units by domain if you’ve got more than one site going.
I could put together an entire post on the fun things you can do with this data but it’s all for naught if we don’t have it trickling in from the beginning so make that Analytics connection like, yesterday.
Grab the Google Publisher Toolbar for Chrome for instant access to most everything you’ll need without having to log in to adsense.com.
Protecting Your AdSense Account
All of the above will become moot if your account gets the banhammer. Getting into the AdSense program has never been more difficult and getting back into the program is an even taller order. For the sake of brevity here is a list of the most egregious violations of the Adsense publisher’s agreement:
Soliciting Clicks
Content Containing Porn, Violence or Racial Intolerance
Allowing Comment/Forum/User Spam to Linger
Copyright Infringements
Labeling Your Ads as “Resources” or “Favorite Links”
Publishing Your Adsense Data (I’ve used hypothetical/anonymized data above)
Not Having or Abiding by a Privacy Policy
Manipulating the AdSense Code (or placing it into an iFrame)
Abiding by all Google Webmaster Guidelines
Always Be Tinkering (ABT)
Always-Be-TinkeringNever stop. While the above tips are great for beginners I’m sure some of our more advanced readers are shaking in anticipation of more advanced AdSense tactics. While you wouldn’t want to monkey around with any of the items in the “Protecting Your Adsense Account” section, don’t be afraid to experiment with how ads may perform on your page in particular even if they go against one of the suggestions I’ve made above:
Perhaps blending your ads in with your site’s theme just doesn’t work as well as contrasting. Give it a test!
Does Google insist on showing a certain type of ad on your page that you’re convinced isn’t getting clicks? Add it to the competitive filter and monitor!
Google changes the hex color of their ad backgrounds, titles and URLs by all the time. Why shouldn’t you?
You’ll never know for sure until you test it out on your domain, with your users, in your niche. Even if you’re counting AdSense paper stacks like Dr. Dre you may inevitably see a dip in those numbers as user’s preferences change.
A Bit of Speculation &Testing
So these are the basics of AdSense for publishers. Hopefully you’ve gleaned at least one or two tips from the above information but for those of you pining for more advanced recommendations I promise to return with those in the future.
As with Google’s search algorithm we don’t know everything about how AdSense determines CPC, ad quality or publisher quality. We assume that they’re looking for signals similar to that of the search algo but of course there are nuances that, if known to publishers everywhere, would be abused.
But this is just one more reason to Always be Tinkering with your AdSense placements. You have nothing to lose by doing a bit of A/B testing with your ads to determine which colors, placements and ad types work best. In the end the ad deliveries vary so much by niche, region and the browsing history of your visitors that some of these “rules” will need to be customized to fit your precise needs.

Moreover, Indian AdSense Publishers will now get their AdSense earnings directly into their bank account through EFT payment system which has newly available to them with effect from March, 2014.
Now, come to the point that how to get Google AdSense Approval for your Blog or Website. Well! This is one of the frequently asked questions by our readers that why their application get rejected for Google AdSense.
Here is the extract of Email received from adsense-noreply@google.com by applicant for the subject – “Your AdSense application status”:-
“Thank you for your interest in Google AdSense. Unfortunately, after reviewing your application, we’re unable to accept you into AdSense at this time.”
OR
If someone is already earning from YouTube videos, they may get email like this:-
“Thank you for your interest in expanding your Google AdSense account to implement ad code on your own website. Unfortunately, after reviewing your application, we’re unable to approve this application for the time being. Your existing AdSense account that allows you to show ads on partner sites is not affected by this disapproval.”
Most of the common reasons/issues for disapproval are:
Site does not comply with Google policies
Site does not comply with the Google AdSense program policies
Insufficient content (as explained in later para)
Site does not adhere to the Webmaster Quality guidelines
If you are one of those applicants whose AdSense application has been rejected again and again then please ask from yourself only one question:-
Why Should Someone visit your Site First?
I am sure you will get your answer and you will get your approved AdSense account thereafter. The good news is that now you will be able to immediate access to your AdSense account once you sign up.
How to participate in Google AdSense Program
Actually, there are some basic requirement for eligibility to participate in AdSense online program which has been briefly discussed hereunder:
A) Google Account:
I know that most of you have already Gmail account and if you haven’t then please create a Google account needed to sign in to AdSense. All information regarding acceptance, rejection, payments etc. in relation to AdSense will be mailed to your Gmail account by Google AdSense Team.
You should always be careful while providing your personal details at the time of creating a new Google Account. This is because if you will provide wrong information like Full Name, Age and Address etc. then your application might be rejected by AdSense team.
B) Age Requirement:
In accordance with the AdSense Terms and Conditions, applicants must be at least 18 years of age. Thus, if you are not 18 years old then you will not be able to participate in Google AdSense irrespective of satisfying all other conditions.
In that case there is a simple trick that you may provide your parents or guardian name instead of yours at the time of making application (see the procedure below) while signing up for AdSense Program.
C) Blog or Website:
Yes! If you are running your own website then it is OK otherwise you should have to create one free Blog with Blogger.com to monetize the contents on your Blogger Blogs or Websites. However, if you have more than one blog/site then please provide the address of your best site which comply all conditions mentioned as under.
1) Website/Blog Ownership:
It is compulsory to have your own site or blog so that you can access the HTML source code to place the AdSense Ad Units code which displays Ads on your site. Otherwise your AdSense account shall not be approved on final review made by AdSense team.
It is not mandatory that you must have a custom domain for your blogger blog but I strongly recommend you to purchase a domain preferably top level domain like aubsp.com, and example.net etc. for your BlogSpot.com blogs.
2) Website/Blog Contents:
Think as an advertiser’s point of view that why you will go for a site which has not quality contents. Remind one thing that AdSense works by crawling the contents of each and every single webpages on your blog/site.
i) Post Quality: I mean every webpage contain enough textual contents to complete the whole story and topic you are willing to s pread online. This will make happy to your blog readers because they gets complete information and answer for which they have visited your site.
Note that you may not fix the length of any post which results quality contents for Google AdSense. However, I personally opines that an article written within 500-800 words is more than enough instead of writing too short post with just 100-150 words.
ii) Post Quantity: If you want to get one short approval for AdSense program then please make sure you post at least 3-5 posts on weekly basis unless and until your blog/site get approved by AdSense Team.
Google has not specified any magic number of posts to be required for AdSense approval. But, in my opinion if your blog have more than 25 good quality articles then your blog is ready for applying for AdSense.
It is the quality and not the quantity of your blog posts which AdSense team consider at the time of reviewing your blog/site for AdSense approval.
iii) Insufficient content: Your webpages should have sufficient text, I mean to say maximum text with complete sentences and paragraphs, not only headlines. This is because if your site contain mostly images and videos then your application will not be approved.
iii) Original Contents: Your site contents must be original and not a copy paste from other website/blog or anywhere else. Therefore, you should not use copyrighted material in any manner on your site. If you are using any copyrighted textual contents, images, videos etc. then it violate AdSense content policy. Some webmasters uses images for their posts either from Search Engine Result Pages (SERPS) or other sites without
iv) Regularly Updated Contents: Suppose someone has posted 50 posts in a single day or week to get approved for AdSense and thereafter not posted a single post within week or even a month.
Thus, please keep updating/posting on your blog on regular basis so that your approved AdSense Account will not disapprove or disable within a short span of time.
3) Website/Blog Age:
To ensure the quality contents and keeping in mind the interest of Google Advertisers, Google AdSense has specified that the Indian and Chinese AdSense Publishers required to have owned their sites for at least 6 months. Accordingly, except India and China, there is no any minimum age obligation for either blogger blog or website to participate in Google AdSense Program.
However, you have to ensure that your website is live and not in a beta mode or under construction phase before you apply for AdSense Program. Thus, placing ad code on a website which is not fully launched or only consist a website template will not get final approval.
4) Website/Blog Language:
You may write your site or BlogSpot.com blog in so many languages. However, AdSense Program is not available for all languages including HINDI (supports w.e.f. Dec 2014), Bengali, Gujarati, Panjabi, Telugu, Afrikaans, Irish, Latin etc. and therefore the primary language of your site must be in the AdSense supported languages.
5) Traffic sources:
Your blog/site traffics must come from the genuine sources. In other words, if you got the visitors through Search Engines, Social media and feed subscribers then it is good for the AdSense approval.
But, if you send bulk SMS, Email with your site links or asked your friends/relatives/students at large to daily visit your blog without any interest then it will impact badly on your site. Further, if your blog is not receiving at least 25-30 unique visitors per day then please wait for some time to get more organic traffics on your site and then apply.
I strongly recommend you to sign in to Google Analytics and Webmaster tools which help you to understand your blog/site contents, live visitors, unique page views, and traffic sources in dynamic ways.
D) Non-Google Ads:
You are free to use any third party advertisements on the same blog or webpage for which you are going to apply AdSense Program. In other words, there is no restriction to display Google Ads on your blog having Ads from Infolinks, BuySellAds, Clicksor, Chitika, Amazon Associates, Media.net etc.
However, you should make sure that your site does not contain many third party advertisements. This is because your site will looks like advertisement based rather contents based and that type of website does not qualify for AdSense.

Earlier, you would have to wait for some days or weeks for the preliminary checks to verify the information provided at the time of submitting your AdSense application. Otherwise, you’ll receive an email on your registered Email ID explaining the disapproval reason and the possible next steps that you can take to get approved account.

how to get google adsense approved
Minimum Posts/Articles/Pages:
If you are using WordPress, make sure your website/blog has at least 40 quality articles which are not copied from anywhere else. Your content on the articles should be extremely rich and make sure you use relevant images where ever required. Try to include two lengthy articles of 2000 words each, which should be absolutely stunning while anyone reads them on your website. If you are using HTML website or any other non CMS version of blog, make sure you have atleast 50 pages on your website in form or articles or landing pages.
If you miss providing this any of the above information on your website, Google might reject your application saying Insufficient Content or Unacceptable Site Content. So make sure they see enough content on your website before applying the program. The more the content, the better chances of approval.
Prohibited Website Niches:
Statistics show that your account will go through a faster approval process if you have more quality articles on Health, Internet Marketing, Business, Law, Technology, Entrepreneurship, Travel, Lifestyle and Social Media. Google will take your application as a serious offense if your website contain any of the prohibited content mentioned in this link here.
Some studies have also proved that Google AdSense might reject your approval if your website is on event blogging and micro niche blogging. In this particular blogging, you limit your blog content to only one particular subject and create a spam domain around it to rank higher. Eg: www.mayweathervspacquiaomatchonline.com (Mayweather vs Pacquiao Match Online). In some cases, if you have observed Google Ads in these of websites, probably they have applied the account through an another account and placed the ads in this event niche blogging to earn quick money.
No Third Party Ads or Programs:
Before applying to AdSense, make sure you don’t allow or place any other third party banner ad code on your website. Also, I have made a step by step video guide on how to apply Adsense if you are looking for more information. Check out the below video and let us know if you still have trouble in getting your account approved.
How to adsense not banned for beginner
It was in March 2009 that I started using AdSense, and since then it’s a part of my blog monetization technique. In first 5 years I have earned about 2.2 million INR with AdSense, and realized no matter how many Adsense alternatives we talk about, AdSense is by far one of the best contextual and highest paying ad network for any blogger.
How to Keep Adsense Account Safe
I have already shared some of the working tips to increase Adsense revenue but as I mentioned, Adsense is very strict about Adsense TOS, and you have to take care of certain things to stop violating AdSense policies. We all know, getting Adsense approval is not that easy and we need to do many things to keep our AdSense account active.
Recently, I got an Email from Adsense team saying “Adsense serving has been disabled on one of my site” and I realize it’s the right time to update this post and make new AdSense publishers aware of Adsense policies and things to avoid, which may lead to account ban.
Little out of context but since 2011, when Google launched Google Panda, they also made some major changes in Adsense quality guidelines. Especially, in 2011-2012 we have noticed many Indian and Pakistani Adsense publishers has been banned due to copyright violation and due to low-quality pages. Another major reason for Adsense ban is invalid click, which is altogether a big topic, and I will cover it on another post.
Though Google Adsense is very strict about the policies and as I mentioned on my previous post of why I removed Global Translator plugin to save myself from getting banned from Google Adsense.
These are the simple mistakes you and Adsense publisher should avoid getting themselves banned:
Understand Adsense TOS and Stop violating Adsense Policies:
Invalid Clicks:
This is where the maximum Adsense account gets into the danger zone. Most of publisher who starts with Adsense, they usually ask their friend to click on Ads or click on their Ads from different I.P. If Adsense team detect such activity, they put your account in disable mode to ensure and safeguard their Advertisers.
Also, many new publishers ask their readers to click on ads, which is also discouraged by Adsense as stated in their program policies.
Using Adsense on unsupported language blog:
At the time of writing, Google doesn’t support all the languages to qualify for Adsense program. If you have approved AdSense account, and you are using it to show it on the blog whose language don’t qualify Adsense TOS, then make changes asap. Especially, if you are using any method to make your blog multi-lingual and serving Ads on it, this will be considered as a violation.
Here is the list of AdSense supported language.
Maximum Adsense unit on a single page:
AdSense work on simple rule of 1-2-3 to define the maximum number of ad unit on a single page. You can refer to the previous post for more info: Maximum number of the AdSense unit on a single page. Though, this is not any violation of Adsense policies as this could be a mistake, and AdSense won’t show more than three content ad unit unless you are a premium Adsense publisher.
Sending ads on Email:
Many publishers started the trend of sending AdSense adverts within the email, and sometimes it goes viral. Google find it against the program policies.
Advertisement label:
Many publishers started using a trick like click here, Click to see hot babe, and this also helped to encourage the click. Encourage click? Oh, time to look at point 4. Or you use pop-up script to show Adsense in pop-up and readers have to click on it to read the content, Ahh big no!
Competitive contextual advertisement:
Make sure you don’t use any other contextual advertisement program. Let Google ad sense by your only and favorite advertisement program. Though for monetization you can use many other ad networks and here are some which I have used, and they comply with Adsense TOS. Infolinks, BuySellads, Technorati Media, Viglink.
Altering the Adsense code:
So you are a programmer? Huh! Doesn’t matter. Changing your Adsense code in any ways is not permitted by Google.
Shading with Image: Placing Google Adsense Image ad unit with the adjacent image can be a great and smart move, but guess what? Do it and Google AdSense might ban you. Google TOS doesn’t allow the use of shading your AdSense image ads with the adjacent image.

Hosting Copyright content:
If you are running Adsense on a site that distribute copyright content like Movies, songs or any other files, you are most likely to get an instant ban. Adsense doesn’t allow putting Adsense on the site that distribute copyright stuff.
Linking to site who distribute Illegal and copyright content:
This is something which I got to know about in 2012 and one of the reasons why most of the sites are getting Adsense ban. If you are linking to sites like (Streaming movie), illegal or pirated software, Keygen sites, your AdSense serving might be disabled for that particular site. Here is the other type of content, which is not allowed for Adsense sites:
Porn, Adult material
Violent content
Racial content
Hacking/Cracking
Gambling/Casino
Pages selling Drugs, Alcohol (Beer or hard alcohol)
Pages selling Weapons and ammunition
Distribution of course work. Eg: Student Essays
Above are just an example, and there could be more. So, you should avoid putting any such content on your blog or at least avoid serving Adsense on those pages.
Paid Traffic:
If you are buying traffic for your Adsense enabled sites, it’s not permitted according to AdSense TOS. Also, consider reading Adsense landing page Quality guidelines, which will give you ample amount of idea, what Google expect from your pages.
Promoting your post on Social media or buying traffic from quality sites like Facebook, StumbleUpon, Reddit is not the violation.
Making ads look like part of content:
You are free to make your ads blend with the content by changing the color or size, but don’t make it look exactly like content. In below image you can see what kind of mimicking is not acceptable:
AdSense implementaion wrong practice
Quick things to know:
Don’t make your AdSense ads sticky. Making it sticky is against AdSense implementation policy.
Using AdSense ads on a Site, which curate videos from Youtube or other video hosting site, can put your account in radar. To Avoid this, ensure you also have original content on your blog. A good idea is to add 200-300 words content in your words describing the video.
Don’t place AdSense ads on 404 error page, Exit pages, log-in pages and thank you pages.
But if you are a victim of AdSense ban game, ShoutMeLoud earlier post on AdSense alternative program will be very useful for you.It was in March 2009 that I started using AdSense, and since then it’s a part of my blog monetization technique. But if you are a victim of AdSense ban game, ShoutMeLoud earlier post on AdSense alternative program will be very useful for you.It was in March 2009 that I started using AdSense, and since then it’s a part of my blog monetization technique.

Hacking/Cracking
Gambling/Casino

Don’t place AdSense ads on 404 error page, Exit pages, log-in pages and thank you pages.
But if you are a victim of AdSense ban game, ShoutMeLoud earlier post on AdSense alternative program will be very useful for you.It was in March 2009 that I started using AdSense, and since then it’s a part of my blog monetization technique.

How Much Revenue AdSense Share with the AdSense Publishers?
This is one of the most talked topics in the forums and bloggers who are using AdSense to monetize their blog. Till now very few publishers were aware of the percentage of revenue AdSense share with the publishers. Today in an official announcement AdSense team revealed the exact detail on percentage of revenue they give to publishers.
Here I have summarized the announcement so that you would know the revenue sharing between AdSense & you for different ad types.
AdSense for content:
AdSense for content is most widely used advertisement inventory from adsense. One of the major reason is it’s contextual advertisement, which helps in getting better CTR. AdSense revealed they pay 68% of revenue to their publishers and rest 32% they keep to maintain and development of new technology. This 68% seems to be fair to me.
Adsense for Search:
For people using Ads\Sense for search, Google AdSense pays you 51% of rev share. This seems low to me, but I would love to know your thoughts on the same.
Other AdSense Unit:
For other ad units like AdSense for feeds, AdSense for mobile and AdSense for games, Google added they are not going to disclose the rev share for this, as they’re quickly evolving, and we’re still learning about the costs associated with supporting them. Revenue shares for these products can vary from product to product since our costs in building and maintaining these products can vary significantly
Why AdSense revealed it’s revenue share?
Sharing this vital information will help publishers to build more trust in Google adsense. For me, it seems like growing influence of other ad networks made Google revealed their AdSense revenue share, as they also added
“Additionally, when considering different monetization options, we encourage you to focus on the total revenue generated from your site, rather than just revenue share, which can be misleading. For example, you would receive $68 with AdSense for content for $100 worth of advertising that appeared on your site. If another ad network offers an 80% revenue share, but is only able to collect $50 from ads served on your site, you would earn $40. In this case, a higher revenue share wouldn’t make up for the lower revenue yield of the other ad network.”
I will love to know your reaction on 68% rev share from Google adsense. Do you think 68% share is decent or it should be more?
